Last night, a friend and I watched Nescafe’s Soundskools event, a competition for bands from different schools all over the country. Yesterday was the 1st of 3 nights of the Visayas semi finals. The competing bands had to perform 2 songs, a cover and an original.

It was my first time to witness such an event plus, my sister was in it. She and her band represented their college. We had such a great time since nothing much was expected. I love listening to bands but never did I imagine myself enjoying the music of amateurs. And all of the bands did a great job (honestly, we only witnessed 2 of the 5 bands coz we had to be back at the office…). The covers were good and the originals were totally awesome. I was very proud of my sister for an excellent job. Though they didn’t win, it was all good and I’m still proud.

What I realized after the night was that a lot of young people out there are just waiting for a chance to break through and show the world what they have.  Not only is this true to the music scene, but also to all other things, be it sports, media, even politics.  And that though we are at doubt of what the future might be, I have high hopes that it will be ok.  There are still youngsters out there finding that chance to make this world a better one…  But they cannot do it without our help.
