the youth are the hope of the future…

i agree.  our future lies in the hands of the youth today.  i was once a part of that youth, and i’d say i was a good member of that group.

yesterday, i needed to do grocery after church.  i attended mass in a not-my-usual church due to the heavy and almost endless rain (which will be another post).

i took the jeepney going to the mall and i sat beside 2 high school girls who also attended the same mass i did earlier.  im very sure they’re best of friends.

girl1: first place we go to in ayala is the cr
girl2: yeah, i think so too
girl1: do you have this number? (refering to some new textmate she has)
girl2: no, maybe thats <insert some name of a guy>
girl1: maybe not, blah blah blah (my head was already ringing, i can’t concentrate on listening to them)

honestly, i felt really really bad about myself the minute i heard them talk.  i just came from mass and i was put in a scene where my critical ears had to hear sarcasm-worthy  conversation.  my patience came in handy, and i gave them the benefit of the doubt that they’re rich kids (no pun intended, english being their default medium).

when they were about to pay fare, the girl beside me fluently spoke in bisaya.  what instantly came into my mind was that “mura mn nig mga taga call center ning mga bataa!”.

mailhan bya jd na nimo kng bisaya nga nag-english2 ang tao, or kng english nga nagbisaya.. there will always be a difference with how rich english speaking kids talk in bisaya…

believe me, my ears got irritated hearing the other girl say “plete namo, palihug ko..”  though she said please, my ears still felt burning thinking that these 2 girls sound like call center agents just recently hired and are still undergoing training.  i don’t mean to offend call center agents, its just that there are people like me who get annoyed listening to them in jeepneys.

and i thought my torture ended with just the fact that they sound irritating.  the next topic they discussed added to the list.  they were actually talking about their boy-textmates… waaaaa, how could i get any more pissed.

all i could think the entire jeepney ride was that the teenagers nowadays are much more concerned with lovelife, fashion, gadgets, social life… really, when i was their age, i didn’t sound like them, nor did i talk about boys or textmates in the jeepney.  what we talk about before were the teachers that hate us, or that we hate, or how difficult the next project is..

*sigh*

i still have hope for the youth, but i can’t deny the fact that there are others who don’t know which things to value more…
